Chapter XII: The Death of a Legend

{Perspective change: Shadow→Sceptile}
I was running through a dark forest. It was like Mew’s Forest of Shadows, but it felt more…evil. I knew Haakonsen was following me, but I couldn’t see him. I came into a clearing, and saw Haakonsen holding a bloodied Godsbane in his hand, with Shadow lying dead on the ground next to him. He stared at me. “I will kill everyone you love.” I turned and ran into another clearing, where Darkshine and Brightshadow were facing me, a murderous look in their eyes. I heard Haakonsen laughing behind me. “I will turn every single one of your friends against you.” The Brightshadow and Darkshine charged at me. “(No…This…This is just a dream.)” Darkshine slashed at me, and left a nasty cut. “If it was ‘just a dream’, would it still hurt this much?” I turned and ran into a dark area. I heard Haakonsen laughing. “Eventually, you will be all alone.” I saw a bright light ahead, which vanished abruptly. Shadow was standing in front of me. I backed away from him. “(What is your trick now, Haakonsen? You really are stupid if you think I would believe that Shadow would kill me.)”
{Perspective change: Sceptile→Shadow}
I stood there, confused. After a few seconds, what she said clicked into place. “Sceptile, I am not one of Haakonsen’s illusions. I am real, I am solid.” Sceptile stared at me, obviously not believing me. “(Prove that you are Shadow.)” “Sceptile, I could tell you any number of things. My name by birth is Steven. Your old trainer died when you were young, and the stone in your chest came from her. I could tell you my exact age, or any number of random bits of data, but it would be impossible to convince you. So I will do this.” I laid my mind bare before her, showing her every last secret. “If this doesn’t convince you, nothing will. Now you know every tiny secret of mine.” “(Arceus, so much…emotion. Mental pain, love, anger, sadness. I…I…)” “No time for this right now, Sceptile. Haakonsen is still out to get us.” “(Right, sorry.)” I spun around. “Haakonsen! You want to play mind games with us? Fine! I can play mind games too!” I raised my hand, and the scene around us changed. “(Where…Where are we, Shadow?)” “We are no longer in your dream, we are in my dream.” “(Isn’t that dangerous for you?)” “Only if I let him win.” I started to bend the dream around me, but I soon encountered resistance. “Crap, Darkrai must be here as well.” “(Oh no, this is bad, really, really bad.)” “Sceptile, don’t be afraid! Darkrai feeds off fear!” I heard laughter, and spun to face the source. Darkrai was floating there. “(My master wants the two of you dead pretty badly. What could you have done to make him hate you this much?)” “We saw through his lies.” “(Whatever, I have orders to end you here.)” “Well, I guess you will be ended here then.” I turned to look at Sceptile. “Get away from here, I will kill Darkrai if I need to, and I don’t want you to get injured.” “(But I-)” “I may have to use perish song. Get away from here so you don’t get killed.” Sceptile turned and ran. I turned to face Darkrai again. “Shall we begin?” I used thunder wave on him, then ran. “(Silly mortal, you can’t escape me.)” “Ah, but I am not escaping you, I am simply tactically retreating.” I stopped in a dark area, and spun around to face him. “And guess what? You just walked, er, floated, into my trap.” I started to use Perish Song. “(Puny mortal, you can’t hurt me with that. I am far too powerful.)” I raised my arm, and dispelled the natural shadow-shield over his mind. (“Ah, but you don’t know how powerful I am, I can simply sing directly into your mind.”) He stopped floating, but was still alive. “(How…How are you doing this?)” I continued to sing into his mind, but I was able to speak at the same time. “I am Shadow. I have mastery over your mind, and I was able to dispel your natural resistance to psychic-type moves. I am now singing directly into your mind.” Darkrai hit the ground, but I continued to sing. He was nearly dead, but I was interrupted by a voice in my head. (“Shadow!”) I stopped singing. (“Sceptile? But…How…You aren’t a psychic-type.”) (“I think that when I healed you, we became mentally linked. That is besides the point. You have fried Darkrai’s mind. He now has the mental capacity of a 5-year old. If you had kept singing, you would have killed him. Now he is of no threat to anyone.”) (“Hold on a second, take the second door on your right, it will lead you straight to me.”) Sceptile walked out of a door nearby me. “Before you ask, I was able to do that because I am now the most powerful being in this dream. I can control almost any aspect of it.” I looked at Darkrai. “I guess we need to get him to someone that can take care of him.” “(Yeah, we need to get Mew to bring him to Arceus.)” I turned to Sceptile. “I will take care of him, you go actually sleep.” I returned her to her dream, then brought Darkrai out of my dream with me.

I stood up, awake, although not well rested. “Mew! I need you in here!” He floated in. (“What is i-Oh my Arceus! What…How…”) “It’s kinda a long story, the important thing is that I fried his mind, and he only has the mental capacity of a 5-year old, and you need to get him to someone who can deal with this.” (“Ok, I will get him to Arceus ASAP. You go get some rest, you haven’t actually slept in the past two days.”) “Yeah, that was-*Yawn*-the plan.” I walked over to the bed and laid down. “Good night…”

{The ‘next’ morning}

I woke up, refreshed for the first time in two days. I breathed a sigh of contentedness. I felt Sceptile stir next to me. “Good morning, Sceptile. How did you sleep?” “(Better than I have in a while.)” Mew floated in. (“Good, the two of you are awake, we were worried when you didn’t wake up yesterday.”) “(Wait, what?)” “Are you telling us that we have been out for over a day?” (“That is what I said.”) “(How…How is that possible?)” (“Two days of running yourselves to exhaustion. Two days with no rest. Shadow flew you all a quarter of the way around the world in an hour, and hasn’t slept without being interrupted since then. You two became telepathically linked, and so, Sceptile, you are taking part of the burden of his exhaustion.”) “That would explain a lot.” (“Oh, and your telepathic link also explains how Sceptile was able to manipulate the shadows to heal you. She borrowed off of your power.”) “But I thought that the healing somehow linked us. But now that you mention it, that wouldn’t make sense.” My stomach growled, and I stood up. “Please tell me we didn’t miss breakfast…” (“You missed breakfast...”) “(I could swear he said not to say that.)” (“…But you are just in time for lunch!”) “Mew, do not ever freak me out like that again.” We walked, er, staggered, out of the room into the dining area. Me and Sceptile sat down, and Mew brought some grilled cheese sandwiches over to us. We ate them quickly, and Mew brought a couple more over to us. We ate those ones as well, although quite a bit slower. Brightshadow and Darkshine walked up to us. “(Mew told us part of what happened. How did you manage to beat Darkrai?)” “Well, I simply sang. I sang Perish Song directly into his mind.” “(But…He is a dark-type, dark-types are immune to psychic-type moves…)” “Yes, but no. Dark-types have a…wall of sorts built around their mind from birth or evolution. A newborn Zoura is actually pretty weak against psychic type moves. This shield builds up rapidly, but slows down the more there is of it. This shield is used to block psychic attacks, but it is partially burned up in the process. I simply dispelled that shield around his mind. After that…well…I kinda fried his brain.” “(You fried his mind. You fried the mind of a legendary.)” “Exactly.” I stood up, now both full and awake, and brought the plates over to the sink. I placed them in the sink and started to walk back over to the others, but I was forced to the ground by a sudden and massive headache. “Arceus. Not. Again!” I saw some of the group split apart from their bodies, and it continued to compound. “Stay. Back!” The image of this area melted away, and I was floating in a void. Countless strands of light flowed beneath me, some diverging from others, some merging. I was drawn to one of the strands of light, and my vision returned, although I was in a different area. I saw several planes flying across the ocean. Haakonsen was in one of the planes. My vision faded again, and I was returned to my body. I stood back up quickly. “We need to go. Now! Haakonsen and team Chronos are on their way this very second!” Darkshine looked at me. “(But…How can you-)” I turned and stared at her. “When I say something this urgently, don’t question me, it tends to be a bad idea.” I turned to face the old man. “I thank you for your hospitality, and once this is over, I will see that you are repaid.” Sceptile walked up to me holding all of our stuff. I took the bags from her, and turned towards Mew. “Mew, I hate to have to ask you to put your life in danger for us, but could you distract them using the Forest of Shadows?” (“Ok, I will.”) “Thanks.” I returned Darkshine, Brightshadow, and Sceptile to their Pokéballs, then walked out the door. I heard Sceptile’s voice in my head. (“Shadow, I wonder, should we really run? Or should we turn and fight?”) (“We are doing both, running from them, and running straight to their base. We are going to rain hell down on them. I am sick and tired of being afraid of them, and I am going to fight back.”) I lifted myself off the ground and started to fly in the general direction of team Chronos’s base…
Well, chapter 12… Only 6 more chapters, including the epilogue and the bonus chapters, are written for this story...

We see Shadow be…awesome. He telekinetically fries the mind of one of the most powerful dark-type Pokémon, which is more than I can say I have done...

I am going to start something up. Here is what it is: Anyone may ask a question addressed to any of my characters or me in the comment section of my main page. A few basic rules about it, though: First off, keep the phrasing child appropriate. Next, you can only address it to a character that has been written about in at least one story, so no asking questions addressed to the one who's name is given in {link}, yet. Third, you must address the question to a specific character or small group of characters {For instance, you can address a question to Stevobrine, or Shadow and Sceptile, but not to all of team Chronos.}, also, please don't address questions to characters that are dead or I would have a hard time talking to without them trying to kill me…
At the end of a time period {I have yet to determine how long this would be, for now let's go with a 2 week length}, I will take the questions and answer them all from the viewpoint of the character it is addressed to in a single status update. So, please do ask questions if you have any, and keep in mind that I reserve the right to refuse to answer certain questions.
